Assistant/Associate/Professor/Clinical and Program Director of the Center for Simulation Innovation (CSI)

 

The School of Nursing at UT San Antonio invites doctoral prepared nurses to apply for a faculty position to lead the Center for Simulation Innovation (CSI) and provide teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs.  Qualified applicants with clinical experience may apply for an academic faculty role with the School of Nursing. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

The Director of the Center of Simulation Innovation is directly responsible for the following:

·        Management of the Simulation Center facility and its operations. 

·        Responsible for leading and supporting the development of nursing and inter-professional education simulation to include multiple venues within the university setting. 

·        For the acquisition, support, and maintenance of the simulators, clinical practice laboratories, and associated technology-based initiatives in the CSI. 

·        Oversees the fiscal resources of simulation related technology, including simulation (high, medium, and low fidelity) and other learning resources provided to the CSI. 

·        For supporting and providing faculty and students with hands-on assistance in the use of technology, including simulation and other learning resources as needed.   

·        Ensures that simulation-based learning experiences meets the International Association for Clinical and Simulation Learning (INACSL) Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice™.

·        The Director is expected to be 100% on site 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM and/or weekends as needed.

 

Minimal Requirements

 

Education

·     Doctoral degree in nursing.

 

Certification/Licensure

·     Current Texas RN license.

·     Certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)

 

Experience

·     Administrative and/or leadership experience for a minimum of two (2) years

·     Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in nursing

·     Minimum of three (3) years of academic experience of simulation experience, and at least two (2) years of teaching experience. 

·     Prior experience managing a CSI is preferred.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

Under the guidance of the Associate Dean of Prelicensure Programs will:

 

·    Oversee the day-to-day operations of the simulation hospital and skills laboratory.

·    Ensure that the acquisition, support and maintenance of the simulators, clinical practice laboratories, and associated technology-based initiatives in the CSI are operational.

·    Oversee the fiscal resources allocated to the CSI, ensuring that necessary staffing, equipment and supplies are available to students and faculty and that necessary maintenance and improvements are completed.

·    Maintains software and hardware maintenance contracts and ensures compliance with existing copyright and software licensing agreements.

·    Ensure that a property inventory is accurate and up to date at all times and all CSI liabilities are accounted for within the institution’s property books. Ensure supplies are properly accounted for and inventoried.

·    Prepares and/or contributes to reports, records, and funding proposals related to the SON’s simulation and clinical skills laboratory.

·    Responsible for hiring and training of qualified simulation staff members. 

·    Ensures faculty and staff are oriented to the use of available technology within the CSI to enhance teaching/learning.

·    Oversee the overall simulation needs for the semester, including the planning schedule for CSI simulation laboratories and pre-scenario run-through.

·    Ensures the CSI maintains accreditation status and meets the standards of the academic programs within the School of Nursing.

·    Collaborate with the Associate Deans of Undergraduate and Graduate Programs to ensure the simulation activities align with the learning objectives of each course and that the CSI is optimally positioned to support ongoing and future based initiatives.

·    Provide operational and strategic planning and leadership to ensure achievement of the teaching funding and research goals.

·    Other duties as assigned.

Benefits Overview

UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.

 

Medical- UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for fulltime employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Family members can be added to the plan through payroll deduction. Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:

 

Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.

 

Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.

 

Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.

 

Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each fiscal year.
