Position Description:  Open Rank Faculty, Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences

 

 

Position Highlights:

This position will contribute to the research and educational missions of the School of Health Professions by teaching courses within the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Medical Sciences Program, as well as other duties associated with a full-time faculty appointment in the school.  The faculty member’s annual assignment is negotiated with the Program Director and is based on the needs of the program.  

 

Faculty Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the coordinator and a primary course instructor for courses offered within the school at the discretion of the Program Director, possibly including but not limited to hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, mycology, parasitology, and virology, and molecular diagnostics.
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate instruction, to include course goals, objectives, learning activities and student evaluation methods (examinations, projects, assignments, etc.)
  • Counsel and advise students; review student prerequisites and approve enrollment.
  • Assign relevant projects and assignments, providing timely and meaningful feedback to facilitate learning.
  • Coordinate courses and programs, as assigned.
  • Serve on the program’s admissions committee.
  • Conduct independent research in the faculty member’s area of specialty, including publication of peer-reviewed research.
  • Seek out and pursue externally funded grant opportunities.
  • Participate on school-wide and university-wide committees
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree (or higher) required; PhD preferred.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience in higher education required MLS(ASCP) certification preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of educational issues and trends in health sciences and health science education required.
