Advanced Practice Provider, Interventional Radiology
The Department of Radiology in the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking an Interventional Radiology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our faculty.
Job purpose: assist with patient care and follow up of interventional radiology (IR) patients and function as an integral member of the health care team in the IR department.
Job duties and responsibilities:
Review the daily IR schedule and place orders for follow up according to the plan of the physician, communicate with the IR clinic staff regarding the plan so the clinic staff can get the patient scheduled.
Meet with the patient/family post-procedure (major cases) to provide contact information and answer questions regarding the procedure, helping to ensure the patient has what they need before being discharged.
Assist with peer-to-peer review by telephone for cases pending insurance approval, i.e. for CT/MRI or procedural approval.
Supervise IR LVN position and provide a yearly evaluation.
1) Establish and facilitate consult service for Vascular Interventional Radiology Services
2) Inpatient and outpatient procedures
3) Inpatient IR placed Drain/tube management including but not limited to:
4) Triage inpatients prior to inpatient IR procedures
5) Follow up after inpatient IR procedures
6) Field calls from referring inpatient/ER teams and facilitates communication with IR physicians when indicated
7) Field calls/emails from IR schedulers/nurses regarding patient procedures
8) Outpatient procedure protocols/image review with physicians
9) Post procedural assessment and symptom management on patients in PACU or IR recovery area
10) Assisting with informed consent for patients prior to IR procedures
11) Assist in IR clinic on occasion
12) Other duties as assigned
Education:
Master’s degree with nurse practitioner certification (Family or Acute Care).
Master’s degree with physician assistant certification.
Experience:
Previous inpatient hospital experience preferred. Prior experience with procedural radiology is helpful.

Benefits Overview
UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.

TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each fiscal year.
