Geriatrician - Faculty Position

Assistant Professor/ Clinical

 

The Department of Family and Community Medicine in the UT Health San Antonio, Long School of Medicine, is seeking an academic geriatrician to join the Geriatricians and Palliative Care Clinic. This position seeks a board-certified or board-eligible Family Physician who is committed to practicing and teaching patient-centered care. 

 

Qualifications and Job Duties include –

  • Board certification in family medicine or internal medicine required. 
  • Board certification or board eligible in either geriatric medicine, palliative medicine, or both.
  • Formal fellowship training preferred, eligible for Texas license (current Texas license preferred).
  • Clinical responsibilities are determined by patient need and organizational mission requirements including work in nursing home, assisted living, home visits, post-acute care including skilled nursing, and inpatient rehab, inpatient consults for geriatrics and palliative care, and outpatient clinic duties for geriatrics/ palliative care.
  • Possible opportunities for medical directorship duties with home health and hospice/ palliative care community partners as well as post- acute care facilities.
  • Clinical experience and interest in hospice and palliative services is preferred.
  • Actively support and participate in the standardization and optimization of primary care workflow and patient centered primary care and innovative team-based care to facilitate care in the hospital and in between the hospital, clinic, and other settings.
  • Effective communication skills; excellent health assessment skills; good computer skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative health care team.
  • Ongoing scholarly activity and both inpatient including skilled rehab and long-term care and outpatient geriatric or palliative care.
  • Sensitivity to psychosocial issues in health care with an emphasis on ethnic issues.
  • Candidate selected will be appointed as either an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor on the tenure track or non-tenure track based on experience and career trajectory.
