Department of Health Sciences - Medical Laboratory Sciences Program

The Medical Laboratory Sciences Program in the Department of Health Sciences at the UT Health San Antonio invites qualified candidates to apply for an Adjunct Associate Professor position (e.g., Blood Bank).  Primary responsibilities are:

  • Teaching upper-division Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree courses in the undergraduate and graduate lecture and laboratory courses in specific medical laboratory specialties, dependent on expertise and education.
  • Teaching and evaluating students in the classroom, clinical and laboratory settings to which one is assigned. 
  • Participating in curriculum and program development, implementation, evaluation and revision for the course(s)/subject(s) you teach.

·         Engage in collaborative scholarly activities, as requested.


Qualified candidates must have a minimum of:

  •  A certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP), and/or
    a certification in a designate specialty (Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB),
  •  A Master's degree in a MLS-appropriate discipline, preferred,  and
  • Experience in teaching in an academic-based, NAACLS-accredited medical laboratory science program.

 Salary will be based on education, experience, and hours of instructional time (credit hours taught).


The Medical Laboratory Sciences Program is a NAACLS-approved medical laboratory sciences program which awards both a BS and an MS in MLS program studies. The Department of Health Sciences is one of five departments in the School of Health Professions. In addition to the School of Health Professions, UTHealth San Antonio also has a Medical School, Dental School, Nursing School, and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The University’s purpose is to provide the best in health professions education, biomedical research, and patient care to San Antonio and the South Texas/Border Region.  The campus is located in the South Texas Medical Center which encompasses four of the major hospital systems in San Antonio.  The UT Health San Antonio is a constituent of the University of Texas System.  San Antonio is the center of a vibrant educational, medical, economic and cultural community.
