Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, responsible for gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of data. This position will perform statistical analyses of existing data to support quality/regulatory, operational, and clinical data needs related to the transplant enterprise. Selects data samples, prepare questionnaires, and analyzes collected information according to established statistical methods.  Leads or mentors lower level team members.

The statistical analytical work will include the customization of datasets, merging data from UHS and UTHSA and external databases, production of tables and reports, univariate and multivariable analyses including survival analysis. The Transplant Statistician will also meet with clinical investigators and provide expert input related to the use of appropriate statistical tests, power calculations, and feasibility.

Job Duties:    

  • Participates in the development of operations and procedures for the collection, editing, verification, and management of statistical data.
  • Operates one or more systems of computer hardware and statistical analysis software for the management and analysis of data.
  • Develops decision supporting tools.
  • Evaluates the statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Analyzes and interpret statistical data to identify significant differences in relationships among sources of information.
Assists team members with their data analysis and shares knowledge and expertise; and validates statistical results with team members to ensure high-quality deliverables.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position is required. Degree in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or other quantitative analysis fields preferred.
  • Masters degree in those subjects preferred.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in biomedical, healthcare, and/or analytics required.  
  • Technical expertise managing data models, data warehousing, database design development & segmentation techniques.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook email & calendar, Excel & Word).
  • Strong theoretical background.
  • Practical experience with most used software packages (SPSS, SAS, SPAD).
