We are seeking an individual to work in a basic research lab. Under general supervision by the laboratory and faculty, the candidate will be responsible for protein expression and purification using multiple platforms, including bacteria, insect and mammalian cells, and subsequent protein purification. The candidate will also provide routine technical assistance in performing assigned and delegated tasks in support of ongoing research projects.  The candidate must have good organizational skills and familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and concepts, and have experience following procedures and protocols.  A strong willingness to learn new assays and techniques is essential and basic computer skills are also necessary (with such programs as Word and Excel). The successful candidate will be working in a large lab with several senior to mid-level PhD-holding scientists, as well as graduate students and research associates, and therefore good interpersonal skills are also important. 

Job Summary: 

Under direct supervision, responsible for providing routine to moderately complex technical lab support for a research facility

Job Duties: 

  • Provides routine technical assistance in performing assigned and delegated tasks in support of research projects in a lab setting. 
  • Performs molecular biological procedures, including restriction enzyme digests, PCR, DNA extraction, plasmid preps, agarose gel electrophoresis, and primer and plasmid design.  
  • Performs various biochemical assays and protein purifications. 
  • Performs general laboratory maintenance including removing and replacing biohazard and sharps boxes, keeping common areas clean, monitoring common lab supplies, restocking returned cleaned glassware, and weekly radiation room wipe tests. 
  • Maintains lab stock solutions, media preparation (liquid and solid), and autoclaving. 
  • Performs competent cell preparation and mycoplasma testing. 
  • Maintains equipment, including cleaning water baths and removing frost from freezers. 

Education: 

High school diploma or GED is required. Bachelor's in biochemistry, biology, genetics or related discipline preferred but not required.

Experience: 

One (1) year of experience is required. Preferred Experience with cell culture techniques, molecular biology/plasma design, protein purification. Experience with HPLC or related analytic equipment
