Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, works in basic science research laboratory, operates lab equipment, performs experimental procedures, collects and summarizes research data. Responsibilities include assisting or conducting a variety of scientific experiments and research projects of limited complexity, collecting, evaluating and interpreting data for clinical and diagnostic research. The lab is focusing on gene regulation study in cancer or neuronal aging. The work will be conducted at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). We need a highly motivated person for this position to help PI to maintain and manage the lab running and perform some research projects. We are efficiently combining biochemical, cellular, and animal model-related studies with different Next Generation Deep Sequencing-based assays. Our high-impact research programs will help the trainees from both wet and dry lab sides to build up strong expertise and training record in molecular biology and multi-omics (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics and metabolomics).

 

 

Job Duties:

  1. Provides routine technical assistance in performing assigned and delegated tasks in support of research projects. Responsibilities include assisting or conducting a variety of scientific experiments and research projects of limited complexity, collecting, evaluating and interpreting data for basic research. Will carry out general laboratory maintenance. Provide Assist the scientific investigators to do some basic research projects. Assists in tissue culture and molecular cloning work.
  2. Carries out general laboratory maintenance. Helps PI to organize and manage the lab running in all different ways. Orders, receives and stores new equipment and supplies. Help the student training and following safety rules, and lab rules. Issues supplies and equipment to students/postdocs, and checks returned equipment for condition. Keeps laboratory area supplied with basic materials or solutions used. Assist the scientific investigators in the maintenance and operation of a technical research laboratory. Carry out general laboratory routine maintenance. Assists in preparing culture media according to formula. Prepares standard chemical solutions. Washes and sterilizes laboratory glassware, following standardized procedures.
  3. Assists in conducting a variety of scientific experiments and research projects of high complexity, collecting, evaluating, and interpreting data.
  4. Assists investigator or higher level technician with research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  5. Performs database queries of historical data and organization of data into spreadsheet for use in research studies.
  6. Supervises other Research Assistants by maintaining an orderly and efficient research environment.
  7. Assists in the inventory of all reagents, supplies, and other materials in the research area.
  8. Ensures proper maintenance of equipment.

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a basic science or related field is required.

 

Experience:

Two (2) years experience is required.

 

Preferred:

Basic computer skill. Some experience in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology (DNA, RNA and protein work, such as plasmid construction, qPCR, western blots and recombinant protein purification), imaging microscope technology, mouse histology work, and Cell Biology.
