Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care to students in the Wellness 360 clinic located at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). 

Job Duties:

  1. Assists assigned medical provider and mid-level in the clinical setting, including but not limited to: the physical examination of patients, performing complex medical testing and providing interpretations of results, consulting with physicians and implements treatment plan and the administration of medications and injections as needed.
  2. Ensures the clinic flow runs smoothly and provides supervision of the assigned Medical Assistant.
  3. Works closely with the assigned medical assistant to ensure all chart preparation is complete and ready for the clinic.
  4. Works closely with the assigned scheduler to ensure referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic tests, etc., are scheduled accordingly per medical provider/mid-level orders.
  5. Calls in prescriptions and refills for patients.
  6. Obtains prior authorization as needed on medications, diagnostic tests, and other medical procedures.
  7. Triages patient calls and works closely with call center team members.
  8. Assists and arranges for hospital admissions as needed.
  9. Follows up on diagnostic tests and labs and ensures they are reported to the medical provider.
  10. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • An Associate’s degree is required.

Experience:

  • At least one (1) years of professional nursing experience is required. Prior clinical, triage, and/or laboratory experience is strongly desired.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally.
  • Demonstrates analytical thinking – this role requires analyzing information and using logic to coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to participate as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
  • Detail-oriented with meticulous planning and organizational skills.

Additional Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current Texas RN license; CPR required.
