Job Summary:

Dr. Kumar Sharma’s lab is applying mass spectrometry technology to study metabolic profiling in nephrology research. Under minimal supervision, responsible for performing technical or narrative research by designing, modifying, and collaborating with the primary investigator regarding protocol and methodology of research topics. May lead or mentor lower-level team members.

 

Job Duties:

  1. Leads in planning, designing, and implementing research experiments according to established protocols to assure high-quality scientific results in support of project goals. 
  2. Perform targeted quantitative metabolomics analysis of urine, plasma and tissue samples from mice and humans using CE-MS, LC-MS, and GC-MS.
  3. Operate all the mass spectrometry instrumentation needed for the projects (training will be provided as needed).
  4. Document experimental procedures in precise detail.
  5. Collect and compile imaging data.
  6. Assist in the day-to-day operation of running a scientific research lab.
  7. Attend lab meetings.
  8. Oversees and conducts experiments and studies and assesses outcome; adapts continued studies based on the organization of findings.
  9. Presents data in organized, readable formats including written reports and graphical summaries, accounts for relevant supplies and ordering them as needed and other activities related to each project.
  10. Writes and prepares final papers to support findings; submits evidence for publication.
  11. Assures compliance with institution policies, rules and regulations to meet federal, state and local standards and codes pertaining to safety and ethics.
  12. Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a specialized field of study is required.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Six (6) years of hands-on experience in GC-MS, LC-MS, and/or HPLC, preferably in small molecule analyses are required.
