Job Summary:

The Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute (GCCRI) Administrator is responsible for the financial and administrative activities of the institute under the authority of the Director of the GCCRI and the Vice Dean for Finance. These activities include, but not limited to: budget development, managing and monitoring expenses and revenues in clinical, academic, and research operations; management of short and long term operations such as space, information technology, and equipment; oversight of revenue cycle, research operations, education, and human resource activities.

Job Duties:

1. Administrative Financial Oversight: This position over sees daily financial and administrative operations, primarily in the areas of human resources, financial, purchasing, and support services management. This position is responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurances that department operations are effective and efficient, department assets are safe guarded, departmental financial information and the department complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. This position oversees the development, management and control of Center budgets and a variety of financial data. Establishes financial and operational systems to monitor, control, and verify expenditures and carry out financial analysis. Reviews and approves all statements of accounts, payroll, human resources, and invoice actions. Plans for physical plant rehabilitation and renovation.

2. Grants Management Oversight: The individual in this position will have a proven track record running a Center Grants program that encompasses, working with PIs, sponsors, grant preparation and submission, sponsor review criteria and funding. It is expected that this person has extensive background creating a system that oversees the entire grants process from idea conception to closing the grant out after funding has ended. They will have extensive experience with the federal government grant system including NIH, NSF, DOD, etc. This person will serve as a lead in developing grants management personnel. The program should have addressed not only increasing the quantity but also increasing the quality of grant submissions to help increase the opportunity of obtaining funding. This position has complete oversight for the preparation and management of grant.

3. Team Building: This position is responsible for the oversight of the overall attitude of the Center employees. They will be the lead in structuring and organizing the overall combined team structure of PIs and administrative staff working together to achieve one common goal of the advancement of childhood cancer research.

4. Advocacy: This position will serve as the lead advocate for the overall benefit of Center both internal and external to the UT structure. They will work with the UT school of Medicine, the Department of Pediatrics, UT Development Office, as well as other statewide non-profit and/or philanthropic organizations to seek development of and to further the advancement of the GCCRI and ultimately childhood cancer research.

5. Administrative Human Resources Oversight: Approves/initiates requests for a variety of support services and agencies. Manages and supervises the human resources activities for the Center, including hiring, terminations, salary, and disciplinary actions. Supervises a moderate staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. Management responsibilities include the authority to hire, fire, or promote assigned employees or make recommendations that are given particular weight.


Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance or a directly related field is required.


Five (5) years accounting or related business experience.

Supervisory Requirements :

Five (5) years of supervisory experience is required.

Knowledge of financial analysis and accounting principles and possess budgetary, analytical and forecasting skills. Familiarity with medical school curriculum and faculty credentials, and knowledge of conflict resolution techniques. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to read and interpret professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents as necessary, write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Knowledge of Federal, State and higher education accounting and reporting requirements and standards. Knowledge of computer systems, software applications, and automated financial systems. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to apply organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
