Be Well Texas is an interdisciplinary team committed to reducing the burden of substance use in Texas by expanding equitable access to compassionate, evidence-based treatment and recovery support services. Our programs organize around three pillars: clinical service delivery to provide access to treatment for individuals with substance use disorder; workforce training and technical assistance to improve quality of care; expand our skilled treatment workforce and clinical research into developing cutting-edge treatments and disseminating them into communities.


Reporting to the Director of Evaluation, the Evaluation Associate will develop and execute evaluation activities across Be Well Texas programs. In this position, you will lead a team of evaluation analysts to conduct summative and formative evaluations, including the development of logic models, study designs, and the creation of survey tools. In addition, this position is expected to produce effective communications, which may include but are not limited to the development of periodic reports, presentations, data visualization, and summary briefs to expert and non-expert audiences.


Under the guidance of the Director of Evaluation, the Evaluation Associate will be responsible for 

  • Assisting in the development of program implementation and evaluation plans
  • Identify and develop relevant and appropriate methods to answer evaluation questions, and makes sound methodological justifications for using them;
  • Leads primary and secondary qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods evaluations. Potential projects include, but are not limited to: designing evaluation projects; conducting interviews, facilitating, coding, and synthesizing information from interviews; building and analyzing surveys; analyzing complex longitudinal data sets; working with publicly available data sets
  • Manages projects from planning to delivery; leads and supports evaluation analyst staff.
  • Utilizes appropriate tools to manage project timelines; plans and facilitates project meetings; engages in staff development,
  • Participates in regular program and operational team meetings to support data-informed decision making, provide technical assistance, and serve as active member of the project/program
  • Writes concisely, edits efficiently, and produces client-ready work 
  • Communicates research findings through compelling written, visual, and real-time mediums in accessible, engaging, and actionable ways for our diverse set of clients;
  • Takes initiative and ownership of projects, is detail-oriented, leverages our diverse team, and demonstrates how-to thinking and a knack for getting things done.
  • Translate the findings, as well as the methods that produced them, for stakeholders who are unfamiliar with evaluation practice and terminology
  • Communicate with staff from other units to produce work products
  • Produce work products tailored to stakeholder needs, including reports and presentations, based on evaluation findings



  • Minimum Master’s degree required in Social/Behavioral/Health Sciences or a related field.
  • At least 5+ years of program evaluation experience.
  • At least 2 years of project planning and management experience.
  • Related graduate-level coursework in program evaluation, logic models, theory of change, survey design, statistics, and data visualization.
  • Demonstrated experience with designing and conducting primary data collection through surveys, interviews, and/or focus groups and with securing secondary data from external databases and public sources
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to teach workshops and prepare reports to present data findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Computer proficiency that includes Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using data collection programs (i.e., SurveyMonkey, REDCap, Qualtrics) or experience collection qualitative data through interviews or focus groups.
  • Strong data management and analysis skills. Proficiency with statistical tools such as SAS, SPSS, Stata, and R or qualitative (i.e., MAXQDA, NVivo)
  • Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team including public health program staff, researchers, and data analysts with a demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Ability to demonstrate an exceptionally high level of flexibility, organization, and attention to detail and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.


  • Professional or educational experience in behavioral health (mental health or substance use treatment or prevention)
  • Experience conducting research or evaluation in partnership with health departments and/or community-based organizations, particularly as it relates to behavioral health programs, policies, and services
  • Experience working across a wide variety of Federal government stakeholders
  • Experience with government programs, particularly in a consulting or other similarly demanding environments
  • Prior research, evaluation and/or lived experience with communities experiencing health disparities
  • A writing sample must be attached to the application.





Benefits Overview

UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.

Medical- UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Family members can be added to the plan through payroll deduction. Employees and their dependents can also receive discounted copays and coinsurance when using UT Health Physicians, a network of 800 premier physicians including more than 100 specialists.

Dental - Three dental insurance plan options are available for employees and their families through Delta Dental Insurance Company, two PPOs and one dental HMO plan. Both PPO plans allow employees to choose any licensed dentist.

Vision- Fully insured Vision Care benefits are offered by Superior Vision Services. Two vision plan options that offer either standard or enhanced vision benefits. Life Employees receive $40,000 of group term life insurance and $40,000 of basic accidental death and dismemberment insurance for free, with options to purchase additional employee and dependent coverage for both at group rates.

Retirement- Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.

Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:

Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.

Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.

Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.

Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year plus three floating holidays, which can be used anytime during the fiscal year.

FSAs- Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.


Discounts- Employees enjoy a range of discounts on services, tickets, and gym membership.
