Job Summary:

Under the leadership of the Institute Director, develops, implements, and supports initiatives for research innovation and excellence.  Leads research operations, financial analysis, strategic planning, and grants management activities. Oversees clinical and translational research project teams, including research, financial, administrative, and educational staff. 

 

Job Duties:

  1. Manage basic, translational, and clinical research projects from National Institutes of Health and other federal agencies, as well as state, foundation, industry, and institutional sponsors. 
  2. Support clinical study operations, not limited to protocol development, staffing, regulatory approvals, site initiation, recruitment, data collection, and close-out.
  3. Oversee workflow design and monitor protocol adherence, milestones, and reporting for ongoing research projects.
  4. Serve as liaison and/or participate in regulatory audits, inspections, site visits, and/or internal reviews.
  5. Serve as primary contact for institutional offices, including, Accounting, Sponsored Programs, Office of Clinical Research, Clinical Trials Office, the Department of Laboratory Animal Research, the IRB, and other Institutes and Centers.
  6. Work with appropriate institutional offices to prepare, negotiate, and manage research budgets and contracts, including invoicing for services provided, and ensure payments are submitted to vendors and study participants in a timely fashion.
  7. Ensure compliance with all internal and external regulatory requirements, including NIH reporting requirements, IRB proposals, annual renewals, and protocol amendments.
  8. Develop and recommend corrective action to address deficiencies identified.
  9. Assist with the preparation and submission of progress reports for funding agencies.
  10. Monitor resource allocations and ensure that funds are used in accordance with external sponsors’ policies.
  11. Management duties include interviewing job applicants; selecting and training employees; setting and adjusting pay rates and hours of work; planning and directing work; appraising productivity and efficiency, handling complaints/grievances and disciplining when necessary.
  12. Assist faculty with preparation and submission of study proposals, grants, and associated documents to sponsoring organizations.
  13. Assist with developing annual budget projections for individual investigators and the Institute as a whole.
  14. Oversee periodic institutional reporting processes.
  15. Orient faculty and staff to institutional research policies and procedures.
  16. Develop strategic initiatives for research competitiveness.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education:

Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred.

 

Experience:

Nine(9) years experience in research or related administration is required, or seven (7) years experience with a Master's degree is preferred.


Preferred:

Experience with clinical research is preferred.  PhD preferred.
