Job Summary:

Monitors and evaluates the workplace to ensure compliance with OSHA and related regulations. Plans, develops, administers, and manages organization safety policies, programs and training.

Job Duties:

  1. Develops, administers, and maintains site specific policies and protocols; while adhering to the radiation, chemical, biological, physical and environmental safety protection functions of the Environmental Health and Safety department..
  2. Oversees all required regulatory inspections, surveys, monitoring, and auditing for compliance with CDC select agent and toxin permit.
  3. Maintains standards for quality, safety, efficiency and performance of the Institutional Biosafety Committee.
  4. Manages federal, state and local safety, health and environmental agency inspections relative to biosafety, select agents and bloodborne pathogens.
  5. Oversees the response and investigation of health/safety accidents or incidents; inclusive of emergency response to hazardous substance releases, spills, needlesticks and other biosafety emergencies.
  6. Provides recommendations on safety spills, needlesticks and other biosafety emergencies.
  7. Carries out audits to ensure that organization and government standards on environmental health and safety are met and advises/informs management of potentially hazardous conditions.
  8. Maintains records on IBC minutes, approvals, select agents and export controls involving biological agents.
  9. Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees; planning hours of work; planning and directing work; appraising productivity and efficiency, handling complaints/grievances and disciplining when necessary.
  10. Participates in the development and delivery of safety training for employees, students and or/faculty.
  11. Participates in safety related meetings as a department representative.
  12. Participates in meetings, workshops and conferences to keep abreast of emerging safety, health, and environmental issues.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health is required.

Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience:

Five (5) years of directly related experience is required.
