Job Summary:

Responsible for the financial and administrative activities of a department under the authority of the Department Director and the Vice President of Research.  Activities include, but are not limited to, budget development and financial management under governmental and non-profit principles, managing and monitoring expenses and revenues in a research support services department.  Prepare annual, in-depth cost and break-even analysis, and directly manage departmental finance and administrative staff. 

Job Duties:

  1. Provides direction and oversight of the unit's operations, in conjunction with the department’s  Director related to areas of administrative, financial, operational, and strategic management.
  2. Manages and maintains all-funds budgeting for the department, including financial planning efforts, with an emphasis on the research support  mission of the department.
  3. Coordinates the compilation of and prepares operational and financial reports to include detailed cost analysis setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriately communicate recommendations or conclusions.
  4. Develops, communicates and manages productivity standards, goals and expectations for departmental staff in conjunction with the Department Director.
  5. Provides administrative direction and coordination in the formulation, interpretation and administration of current and long-range policies, procedures and programs.
  6. Designs and implements departmental strategic plans in accordance with the requirements of the Director and the Vice President for Research.
  7. Manages employee development and retention by effectively leading, motivating, and mentoring departmental staff.  Acts as a liaison with all levels of administration, faculty and outside organizations to coordinate departmental business, accomplish directives, negotiate contracts and facilitate the resolution of problems.
  8. Supports a team of exempt and nonexempt employees related to hiring, terminating, performance evaluation and oversees department’s payroll/time reporting.
  9. Appraises productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in status and handles complaints and grievances and disciplines when necessary.
  10. Performs all other duties as assigned.


Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance or a directly related field is required.



Five (5) years accounting or related business experience to include five (5) years of supervisory experience is required. 


CPA and working knowledge of accounting software systems such as PeopleSoft, Enterprise Analytics and Hyperion is preferred.

Supervisory Requirements:

Has the authority to direct the work of others, hire or fire employees, or provide recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or any other change of status of other employee.
